Jarvis Mission trip
july 8-15, 2022

WHO CAN GO?
This is a church-wide Jarvis mission trip open to everyone.
The minimum age is to attend is rising 9th grade and there is no maximum age.

WHY APPALACHIA?
The region known as Appalachia is a 205,000 square mile territory that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to northern Mississippi. Specifically, in Southeast Kentucky, where we serve, the Appalachian economy has been dependent upon coal mining, agriculture, and heavy industry.  Southeast Kentucky is rich in history, culture, natural resources, and scenic beauty. Yet, in terms of infrastructure, healthcare, behavioral health, mortality, and economic development, the region lags behind the rest of the nation in almost every category. The median household income in Southeast Kentucky, specifically, is 40 percent less than the national average.

WHERE WILL WE BE SERVING?
Our ministry and service could stretch from Corbin, KY, to Williamsburg, KY.  Thirst Missions have several partners in the area.
More info about our tasks will be forthcoming after we have an idea about our team.

WHERE ARE WE STAYING?
Our mission team will be lodging and eating at Union College in Barbourville, KY.   Our lodging will be dormitory-style.  The address of the College is 310 College St, Barbourville, KY 40906.

WHAT IS THE COSTS & WHAT IS INCLUDED?
Cost per person serving is $575.
This will include transportation, ministry materials, lodging, food (Sunday-Friday morning), and recreation (Ark Encounter/Zip Lines).

WHAT ARE WE DOING?
You are helping small church congregations to have a larger impact in their own communities. Whether through food pantries, Bible School, sports camps, general repair and maintenance of homes and churches, handing out blessing bags, prayer walking, or through skilled construction projects, your team will bring the light and the compassion of Christ to a region where many feel left behind and forgotten.
